Maisto 1:18 Ford Bronco Wildtrak & Badlands 2021 – Unboxing & First Look

Ford Bronco is capable off-roader and it gotten cooler and sexier in its 2021 avatar. Maisto announced the 2021 Ford Bronco around the same time Ford took the wraps off this beauty and we collectors gotten excited to the core! Later when the first samples are unveiled, they shared two version (doorless, roofless Badlands and kind of civilised Wildtrak) of the two door versions. I picked my red Wildtrak around January and the yellow Badlands came in last month… Thanks to www.hobbytoys.co for stocking them and fast delivery.

The package is pretty much similar as other Maisto released in the last few years… And because both the Broncos have identical packaging I preferred to do one on camera and other behind camera. The pick for on-camera unboxing is the red Wildtrack and yellow Badlands takes the silent route.

Both the sides looks identical with a prominent “Special Collection” text. One side has a importer information sticker, which also holds pricing details. This sticker seems more like aftermarket sticker and cane be removed easily. Both the 2021 Broncos costs 4500 each. The Red 2021 Ford Bronco Wildtrack was made Oct 21 and imported Nov 21, where else the Badlands was made , which makes the Badlands Bronco a newer product among these two.

The rear of the package don’t have much specific information than a prominent “Special Collection” text. The big block of white contains data about the features, which is very generic as well.

The bottom of the box contains all the legal information and other licensing info. I personally like the badge array and gets me excited looking at the brands together. I have most of the Maisto scale model but “Citroen” dint made it to my collection. Do let us know which all Citroen cars/suvs Maisto made in 1:18.

The unboxing is almost straight forward… Open the box, pull the internal frame that holds the scale model. Then you take off the plastic bracing on the top and back. Two screws hold this Ford Bronco in place, two elastic bands fastens the hood and tailgate. There is also a transparent band that holds the doors together.

Once out, the perception shows how tall the base is, which raises the model inside the box quite a bit. When pegged next to each other, the obvious style difference is visible.

The above three shots shows, how different and similar these two models are. They both have a character of its own and the colors make them stand apart. The yellow 2021 Ford Bronco badlands looks more off-road oriented SUV and the red Wildtrack is an urban sibling.

Though these two 2021 Ford Broncos are made with a same underpinnings they look a class apart. Yes the Badlands version in yellow get open doorless driving experience. Wheel pattern is very different and the most obvious distinguishing factor right next to doors and roof. The exposed roll cage opens up some more detailing opportunity and the rear frame gets a prominent “Bronco” engraving. The weight (599gms) is also lesser than the badlands, which is due to the missing doors and all black plastic roof.

Unlike the Badlands version of Ford Bronco, the Wildtrack gets subtle yet striking differences… The body work is the major difference and it turns this into a totally different model. The wheels on this version is finished in all black and the pattern matches the original bronco. This wildtrack version also gets a hood sticker that shouts “Wildtrack” and this looks far better in real than in photos. This tips the scale at 688gms, which is pretty light for a 1:18 scale diecast model but not bad.

Maisto 2021 Ford Bronco - Wildtrak vs Badlands

From the elevated angle, I personally like the red wildtrack with contrasting roof better. But this is highly subjective and may change overtime. If you peg them heads up or rear facing in display, they cannot be distinguished easily and if Maisto decides to make badlands in red and wildtrack in yellow you will have tough time choosing either.

Overall I had fun unboxing these two beauties together, which is first in xDieacst history. Because they both share same packaging and styling cues, it made lot of sense too. Though not a full review, I did picked on some obvious distingguising pieces and hope you loved reading about it. A full review is around the corner so watch out for it. Till next time… Ciao.
