I love fast motorcycle so KTM is one brand that I cannot pass… KTM 990SM by Automaxx, Super Duke 1290R by Maisto, Duke 125 by Automaxx, Duke 690 by Maisto and also have a KO RC1199 making me a crazy KTM aficionado! My newest addition to my growing KTM scale model collection is this Maisto’s 2022 KTM RC 390 in 1:12 scale and this is my unboxing and first look. Hope I get impressed by this scale model as I love it so much and I may get one as my daily driver replacement, which is a Kawasaki Ninja 250.
This KTM RC390 comes in this orange box that is Maisto’s new introduction! I guess this Maisto should also come in regular package as well… may be! Anyways I really like this orange box and if you are a boxed collection this is great, as all your KTM motorcycles stands out in orange boxes!
This being a branded box, it does get branding info all over the place! The sides of the box gets a prominent KTM logo on a tech style background graphics. We in India also get some importer info along with price details. This is angle I like the most as it just shows off clean subtle lines!
This is a window box so gets windows on 3 sides and that is sufficient to show off this beautiful KTM RC 390! This box is good for both boxed collectors and also for loose motorcycle collectors. The front and rear of the box window is slightly different as the front window is slightly bigger than the rear.
The bottom part of this box holds all the legal information along with barcode. There also is a small unboxing instruction, which might not be necessary as the unboxing is quite simple and straight forward.
Unboxing this KTM RC390 is straight forward if this is not your first Maisto 1:12 motorcycle model! Maybe in two of three steps its out… Cut the box seal, pull the inner frame out, release the back panel from the base and this mean KTM is out of its plastic prison.
This KTM RC390 also gets a black base which some collectors appreciated, which I am not a big fan of but a nice touch indeed! This is the only piece that has physical connection with this motorbike via a screw! This base is sturdy and works well if you decided to keep it in display with it.
Out of the box this KTM looks very cool mean machine… It feels a bit small in comparison to other 1:12 motorcycles but the real bike is also a compact bike displacing only 390cc! I do have a 1:12 scale KTM Duke 125 and that looks quite close to this in terms of dimension and weight but this is a RC so more body panels so should look meaner!
This orange machine is sleek and stand out in any crowd of bike and small scale models of motorcycles. Thanks to its bright orange pain job and kick ass graphics that brings out race spirit out. Though this is not a full review, I put on my reviewer hat immediately as I started clicking pics for this post. This is a decent model from Maisto and except the headlamp this is almost perfect!
This small KTM RC390 looks more like its bigger brother and thats due to its family gene and I dig it! But once you put it next to a KTM 1190 RC8 by Automaxx, (which I still don’t have in my collection) the size difference will eat this mini alive! But this KTM RC390 is as good as it gets I believe.
I have to say, this KTM does have a slim rearend and that all black finish makes it look more sleeker! I kind of feel the rear wheels are off scale as it looks a bit small maybe I am wrong! On the rear the drive chain is finished in silver and they are detailed but the scaling may be off I guess.
Just like the real bike, this scale model of this KTM RC390 is also very light at 109 grams it is one of the light weight motorcycles from Maisto’s 1:12 offerings! But nowadays most 1:12 motorcycles from Maisto are light so no complaints here as the Yamaha R1 that we unboxed few months is only 108gms.
Maisto’s 1:12 motorcycle have come a long way and this being their latest should have some of its latest tech in it! And from the looks of it, this may turn out to be a good bike after all, which will sure add value to the KTM collection. So wait for my full review, which is coming sooner than you think! Till next time… Ciao.
